"Those people who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do."

How did Obama do this week, as a campaigner?

Episode 2: Gonzo Stunt Spectacular! - ¡El espectacular Gonzo!

Lefties (Watch to the end...)

Right Under Our Nose, slavery continues in the modern United States

Slavery, Poverty, and the World Today

In 2004 thee were well over 60,000 slaves in the world, as defined by traditional definitions, more than any time in history, and far more than in the 18 th and 19th century. That number is estimated to be over 100,000 today.

The number living in some form of poverty in the world is in excess of five billion.

The percent at the legal poverty level in the US is over 35%.

Each year over 120 slavery rings are broken up in the US alone.
An estimated 36,000 people living in America are slaves, even more made to feel they cannot leave or must "work off" a debt.

The growth of slavery, piracy, and poverty in the world parallels the growth of international business and the prosperity of both international and American business and and shareholders.
Kidnappings of Americans to be sold overseas is on the rise with high priced sex and even new tech labor illegal trades. Humans are increasingly looked at as numbers and a commodity in this capitalist underground world.

Which political party is fighting for the rights of the oppressed, here and abroad?

Which party puts humanity above profit?

Simple to answer.

Brother can you spare a fiver? Or even one dollar?

In 2007-2008 an informal relationship was established between CSN and the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth (NPHY) to help homeless students have access to college.

The CSN Foundation established a $10,000 scholarship – the Youthful Enterprise Scholarship.

Fundraising efforts began, but were set aside when the federal government relaxed the Pell Grant requirements (removed the requirement for parental information) and the homeless students were able to qualify for Pell Grants.  CSN was approached again last year when a gap in Federal funding was apparent; Pell grants do not cover part-time study or summer study.  So, fundraising efforts have begun again.

Scholarship requirements – the scholarship is available to clients of three agencies – the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth (serving youth over the age of 18),  the Shannon West Homeless Youth Center (serving youth over the age of 18), and the Shade Tree Shelter (serving victims of domestic violence – all ages).  To apply students need to be enrolled in 3 or more credits, and a Nevada resident.

Shirley Carton suggested the theme “High 5 Drive” – asking for donations of $1 - $5.  The drive will join students, staff and faculty in a combined effort.
The “High 5 Drive” is sponsored by CSN students, staff, faculty and the Silver State Schools Credit Union throughout the month of April.

Watch for upcoming announcements about the “High 5 Drive” barbecue on April 17th!

New Hours for CSN Department of Communication Office

Hi Everyone,
Great news!  Effective Monday, April 9th, the CSN Department of Communication office will be open from 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM (Monday – Friday).  This modification to our open hours was done in an effort to have someone present in the office just prior to our 8:00 AM classes.  This will go a long way to being even more accessible to our students, staff and community.  The attached flyer gives you all of the specifics.  Thanks to DJ for creating this flyer.  Also, thank you to both DJ and Ginger for their willingness to accommodate these new open hours.  Please let me know if you have any questions.
Take Care,
James McCoy
