Freedom of Speech, one view....

Let me try to clear something up. "Freedom of speech" does not mean you get to say whatever you want without consequences. It simply means the government can't stop you from saying it. It also means OTHERS get to say what THEY think about your words.

So if someone makes an ass of himself, don't cry "freedom of speech" when others condemn him. It only highlights your general ignorance.

But those freedoms should also not endanger the lives of others without justification. The book/movie "Zero dark thirty" should never had been published since it reveals information about functions of active U.S. forces; the same could be said about sources such as wikileaks. There is a limit to what should be said: an opinion is fine, but there is times that it is not proper to give the facts.

I agree that people should be allowed to express their opinions. Whether those opinions should have consequences depends on the view of those around the "offender" at the time. Something may be said that you do not agree with that others may. At the same time, something may be said that you do agree with that others do not. Regardless, who determines whether it is appropriate or not if it is based on opinion?

People need to realize that what they say may sound great in their mind but once it leaves their mouth that can all change.

People are allowed to speak freely, doesn't mean you should. Just cause you can do something doesn't make it right. It's interpretation has become very loose over the years I feel.

Words are powerful. The way you say something intentionally or unintentionally can affect others around you. It is very important to think about what you have to say before you speak. If you do not have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all. Then people wonder why I'm quiet all of the time. Just kidding. But on a serious note, just because someone says something ignorant doesn't mean you should address it in a negative manner. Have a debate just don't attack the other person and please don't be a hypocrite.
