Las Vegas loses a key member of its business community: Legendary racer, car designer Carroll Shelby RIP

Carroll Shelby, the legendary auto racer and car designer who built the fabled Shelby Cobra sports car and injected testosterone into Ford's Mustang and Chrysler's Viper, has died. He was 89.

Shelby's company, Carroll Shelby International, said Friday that Shelby died a day earlier at a Dallas hospital. He had received a heart transplant in 1990 and a kidney transplant in 1996.

Shelby International has an auto design and construction facility near the Las Vegas Speedway.

Wow I didn't know he lived here, much less that he died. It's unfortunate how many amazing people have died within the past couple years.

Being from Michigan and a car lover myself, this really hits home. The world is losing all the greats too soon, too fast.
