"Historically, the claim of consensus has been the first refuge of scoundrels; it is a way to avoid debate by claiming that the matter is already settled." -- Michael Crichton.

You know people do this on a daily basis, they will squash a dispute saying that its already settled when its clearly not. And this is because the person doesnt want to deal with the after effects. I think its stupid for people to just give in to situations because no matter what that dispute is still gonna stay in the back of your head.

This quote was actually confusing to me. I had to pull out the Merriam Webster and re-read the definition of consensus because we use the term "consensus decision" regularly at work. We use that term in the context of making a group decision based on the process of everyone bringing their opinions and best practices to the table; and based on the collaboration come to a consensus. More often than not, we do not follow the status quo because the status quo isn't working which is the reason why we call a meeting for change and a consensus decision.
