I disagree with that, I think obesity in america today is from us wanting everything tp be easy. Because you can eat a 99 cent burger and play a friendly game of football and burn it off, but instead eat the burger and play video games.

While this does make sense, I think this is a broad generalization and fails to look at many other aspects of why children today are obese. This post fails to question how parental guidance has a far greater influence in how children eat. Like kids that watch their parents smoke who then later go on to smoke, health habits are learned during childhood and then reinforced as life goes on. Fast food is cheap and easy in the present but costly and harmful in the future.

I believe it can be blamed on bad parenting as well. My parents are raising my niece and it's fried this and fried that, ramen noodles and cheeseburgers. It's terrible. They treat me like I am ruining the fun when I suggest healthier alternatives. She is obese and it makes me really sad.

Well obviously there are a multiple reasons why people are obese... But it is a huge problem how hard it can be to eat healthy... I try to eat all organic foods and I can definitely see the price difference... A Double cheese burger meal with fries and a drink is around $5 while a salad alone is $5 coming with no sides, and you have to buy a drink separately...

Fast food has taken a toll on children's health. Because of eating more and more fast food, child obesity is growing rapidly. It is also one of the primary reasons for what causes teen obesity.

All will agree that there is a growing obesity problem in the US. There are many issues within this problem. We can argue that cheap fast food is on every corner and Whole Foods is not. We can argue the reasons why parents allow their children spend too much time playing video games. For me, it flows back to education. In this case it is nutritional education. If someone drowns their salad in creamy fat filled dressing, it could have more fat, cholesterol, and calories than ordering the burger without the bun wrapped in lettuce with mustard instead of mayonaise.

I wouldn't say this is 100% true and if I'm thinking critically than I can say children are obese for many reasons not only because it's cheaper to by a burger than a salad. You can also get a small salad for 99 cent at Wendy's. Phoenix Carmen

I agree that priceing for fast healthy food is hard to come by. I for one went haungry because all i could find was burger and chicken shacks for lunch i eventually had to go to the local smiths to find a salad. so please do not forget that availability is an issue as well.

While I think the price point plays a good role in the obesity, it is of course not the only reason. The poster is misleading in that fact unfortunately.

Now, it does depend upon the salad, they can actually be worse for you or as bad as that burger. Just because it's green and has fruit, doesn't mean it's healthier. The dressings normally account for a lot of the unhealthiness, but the levels of saturated fat in some of the salads are sometimes half of your daily value. As well as the calorie count and saturated fat levels are near each other. Compare a Panera Roasted Turkey Fuji Apple salad or Fuji Apple Chicken Panera Nutrition vs. A Cheeseburger from McD's. Salad much worse than that Cheeseburger.

Too broad of a generalized poster. A part of the problem, sure.

Its so true. Not only is fast food fast, but its usually cheaper than the healthy stuff. This especially applies to McDonalds. I got a salad the other day and couldnt believe that it was that much. I had assumed that all their prices were cheap.. apparently not. Of course, this is only one of many possible explanations.

No kids are obese because playing basketball on xbox is more fun than playing it in reality.

This is so true. I know there have been times when i was hungry and just had a few buck in my pocket and all i was able to afford was a double cheeseburger

I too believe it has a lot to do with the parents. It also has to do with the fact that today everyone runs around and is so busy doing everyday tasks that it tends to be easier to drive through to a window than to cook at home. It is terrible and people need to realize the money you save by eating at home can help pay the bills that most complain they cant afford.

I have learned a lot (in regards to nutrition) over the past ten years of being a mother. My poor first child was fed entirely too much fast food due to my lack of understanding the need for healthy food to ensure optimal growth and overall health. Preparing a healthy meal is not hard, but the key word of that sentence is "prepare". People want everything NOW and it has taken a toll on nearly every aspect of our lives, especially when it comes to our obese youth.

Y is beef cheaper if we have to kill and cook it?

Veges r just picked and can be eaten immidatly.

This is true. I usually eat healthy but if i stop at a fast food place im going to get the burger. Burger; bad for you, taste good, cheaper.
Salad; since its from a fast food place its probably not that healthy anyways, not as good tasting as a burger, 4 bucks more
Easy choice
