Which in turn seems to be a lack of character in society. I think people turn their backs on the poor out of an innate fear of becoming poor themselves. It's sad.

I disagree with these statements. Being born into poverty is not a life sentence. A person’s character and determination will determine where they end up. Accepting your situation and doing nothing to improve it isn’t poverty, it’s defeat.

There will be poverty in every society, but it is how we deal with those people in poverty and trying to help them to create a less populated poverty level will determinethe character of a society....

I agree. My sociology and psychology classes have talked about poverty and inequalities before. It seems like people are trapped in poverty because of internal and external influences, some of which were definitely lack of opportunity and support from the rest of society.
