Are camera's obsolete?

Smart phones are becoming more useful by the day. Every day there is a new application available that makes life easier. With the ability to combine multiple uses, why would anyone wish to use items with only one function unless they specialize in the area?

If people only in this area needed a specific instrument then it would then be more expensive for that one object that used to be affordable for everyone. And then that proffession would be dwindling and definitely not used as a hobby. Except for maybe people with money that would be able to afford it....

Cameras really are basically obsolete unless you are a photographer. The iphone has so many filters and filtering/editing apps that having a separate camera is just unnecessary.

Here is something to be said about printed photographs versus digital photographs. I wish I could rememebr if it was 60 Minutes or which news show it was, but I rememeber a story about photojournalism and the Monica Lewinsky scandal. For alot of traditional college students who may have just graduated, you may not remember Bill Clinton's fling with an intern. What I remember in the story is the photojournalist talking about how many rolls of film they used to take at each political event and how many actual photos they had to develop and because there were so many saved images of Monica and Clinton together it became very easy to put the puzzle together. The comment was made that with digital photography, the same number of photos may be taken, but after the story is run, most just click delete. The photojournalist said he will always use film and always get the story. So for the average Joe, maybe the cellphone camera is good enough, but the professionals may never consider them obsolete.
