Tea Party wants to bring the government down

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., today accused Tea Party Republicans of seeking to “bring the government down,” playing on Democrats’ latest theme of painting the Republican majority in the House as hostage takers.
In an interview taped today for "To the Point", Reid acknowledged the spending cuts in the agreement to end the debt ceiling stalemate could have difficult ramifications for an economy that may be headed back into recession.
But he blamed Republicans for forcing the issue.
“All economists say that what the Republicans forced upon this country is wrong,” Reid said. “This is the wrong time to be cutting spending. Of course, they held the country hostage.
“Our No. 1 job should be creating jobs, but the Tea Party-driven House of Representatives seems to have another agenda and that is bring the government down.”
Reid said that the agreement he helped craft, however, will force Republicans to agree to tax increases or cut programs they want to protect.
