"When even one American, who has done nothing wrong, is forced by fear to shut his mind and close his mouth, then all Americans are in peril." ~ Harry Truman.

We all should be able to stand up for what we believe in regardless of the circumstances. Opinion is what sets us different. Chad Charles Com 101 6002

We cannot grow without hearing other's feedback and opinions. We live in America, there should be no more fear to speak what you want.

We have freedom of speech. If you cant speak your mind and your afraid to even think your own opinions we become nothing. Alexis Cooper com101 6002

I agree with chad. But I also feel as though when we do stand up for what we believe in we could stand alone and this intimidates us to thinking that what we may think is right is "wrong". Sometimes we really do only lose when we start to fight back.

I fear that may happen. It is happening already.

Greatest thing we still have is the ability to think freely and share our ideas amongst one another. When our communication and freedom to think is taken away, we will have nothing. We will only know what we are forced to believe.

Everybody needs to be able to think for themselves. Don't make your decisions based on what other people tell you.

it is a right to speak our minds and its sad when we've done nothing wrong yet fear to do so and are punished

So many use fear to shut others up from voicing out. A lot should just speak up regardless rather than having ignorant tyrants speak for them. Everyone's voice matters not just ONE.

It's like a group who is in the wrong place at the wrong time, but still gets punished by being guilty of association.

One of the main issues is people would speak their opinions at the wrong times or say them to the wrong people in hte wrong way and when nothing gets done, people get discouraged.... Or they are just simply afraud of what the repercussions could be for having their opinions due to past experiences...

I agree wholeheartedly with Leslie. I couldn't have said it better myself. Without the freedom to speak or think freely, we might as well be robots.

Why do we even have mouths if were not going to use them when necessary!

I do understand speaking your minds and freedom of speech. However we must also listed to others. Thats how we can truly communicate effectively and resolve issues but listening, speaking and problem solving. No one, however, should ever be afraid to speak because this is a free country and we should all listen to eachother to make a change!

This is a quote that reinforces the first amendment of the constitution. Harry Truman was president in the early 1950's and this quote for that time is impressive to me.

We live in such a prized country so it really makes me sad that sometimes my fellow Americans have to fear saying their own oppinions.

Yes I believe we shouldn't be in fear to shut our mouths or close our minds.
