This is really interesting. I know that I have told someone that they are closed minded when they probably arn't. This explained so much.

I can't count on both hands how many times I have been called close-minded but it was them that were truly close-minded because I have stated evidence and they blocked it out. I am open to new Ideas as long as you have evidence and can explain to me why you think you are right. (Cassie Smith com 101)

I hate when people call me close-minded. When, in most cases, they are the ones not willing to listen to anything they don't want to hear. It comes down to what you want to hear and believe.

I have always thought of myself as open-minded. I am always willing to listen to what other people have to say and if I don't completly agree with them I'll ask them for evidence to support that idea. Kali Gates BC6003

Very interesting video! It made me think and analyze some situations... Close-minded people think they know everything )) but noone knows everything. As long you live as long you learn

This really helped me to understand open mindedness. I thought of myself as being a person with an open mind when really I'm very closed minded. I need some work in being more open, this video clip was very enlightening.

I would definitely consider myself open minded! I love hearing about and learning new things, especially since i am so out of touch of what is going on in the world, lol

WE all mostly consider ourselves open minded, but thats our personal opinion based on our own biases.

Although it was a little longer than others, that was a very enlightening video. I know some people who are very controlling, arrogant, and presumptuous who should take a look at this video. In the past, some people have criticized me for my non-beliefs in certain things, and have tried to force me to think their way. Instead of telling me that I have to believe in what they do, they should allow me to think as I want with no confrontations.

Well worth over 9 minutes of video. Most people confuse open mindedness with simply giving lip service to the opposing view or tolerating jerks.

An open mind is a learning mind. If we close off the world we will not learn and grow.

open-mindness is a good perspective to have because it allows you to view things in a positive way and possibly learn something new. this allows you to put aside the biases and focus clearly on the subject at hand.

Good video, but it was very biased video. Im a Christian, and my boss is Atheist. Ive let him share with me tons of information on natural selection and the big bang, but as soon as I mention the name Jesus, i get laughed at. But there are other friends that love to here about The Gospel but they dont believe in God. Being open minded is all about how good of listener you are i think, or i could be dead wrong. In my experience people that are close minded area rude, or at least my boss is.

There are so many people who are closed minded. I think there is a lot of closed mindedness which happens in politics. I was Studying about Socrates and his trial, which was in front of a lot of closed-minded people. I didn't help that he alienated himself with some of his comments but it is a good example that being closed minded can get you into trouble. But being open minded will help you strengthen your own views now that you have a greater understanding of others side.

Being open minded is useful in a sense that it heightens ones listening skills, on the other hand it’s a curse in that you never really let yourself believe in anything unless there is cold hard facts.

I think this video is a great way to understand how to enhance both your listening and learning skills. Ironically, you would have to be open minded enough to consider what information the video is providing in order to do so. Also, I believe it is incredibly accurate when it talks about how science relies on open mindedness, because a theory can never be proved. A theory can only be disproved. Although this may dismiss a previously accepted theory, it means that there is always room for improvement. An open mind allows for new ways of thinking that may provide better theories, explanations, and evidence.

Close-minded people are the ones afraid of change. They dont want to be told that their way is wrong, which will ultimately result in their obsolescence. It is then up to the open minded individual to lead the way for the future.

i always try to be as open minded as possible and not put others down for what they believe.

I always try to be very open-minded. I think being open minded doesn't mean not having a certain belief and never standing up for yourself, but to mean that you have learned what you can and believe what you do, until you learn more. You can only learn so much at a time, the rest comes with experience.

Open mindedness is the key to being a well-rounded person I believe. Taking into consideration both sides of an argument, thought, or belief will help a person to make conclusion that is reasonable and not just make an assumption.

Everyone has a right to believe what they want, and that includes me. I choose to believe that Jesus is God and that he is real.

But what did you think of the overall powerpoint on being open minded?

Art Lynch said...

I too am Christian. Teaching about critical thinking in a Christian institution includes concepts used in the video as well. If you are strong in your beliefs understanding the other side will not impact your right to believe anything.

To your comment..."Amen".
