Listening to my parents has me wonder if jobs really do build character. Maybe kids working would really help the youth of today earn respect. Chad Charles Com 101 6002
Who can remember the workhouse slavery, and 14 hour days kids had before unions put and end to it. If we had a memory or respect for history there would be fewer Repubicans and more Union members.
Work builds work ethic. I grew up on a farm. We worked hard, long days. No one in my family lacks in work ethic. My children have duties, and if they want something aside from necessity, they have to earn it. This is different of course from "sweatshops" and "slavehouses". THere were many wrongful things of the time. But most parents sent their kids to work to help with the family. It was a joint effort to survive. I can tell you this though. The children of that generation worked. They didnt play videogames and sit in front of the tv and eat crap. When they played, they played in this place called outside.
I think that this is some what funny. I think that Unions are a huge part of why America is in economic downfall. Sure Unions are great for somethings but the way I look at is: 1. the workers are over paid 2. they do not require you to have a college education. So this picture is pretty accurate in depicting how I feel about unions.
Child labor was real when the photo was taken. If you watched Prohibition on PBS you saw kids slaving in factories. It was real and could be real again. Too many people do not read or pay attention to history.
That's funny! Kids need to work, I have spoiled nieces & nephews that did not have chores & any hard work like I did growing up. Then, when it came time to get jobs in high school a few of them were too lazy to do that! I had to chores WITHOUT pay as a kid & knew better than to argue. There was no allowance, there was dinner.
Sure, I am a firm believer in jobs teaching young kids character. But not when they work in the horrendous conditions that these little boys did in the early 20th Century. Thanks OSHA
