Words of Wisdom: The first step in the acquisition of wisdom is silence, the second listening, the third memory, the fourth practice, the fifth teaching others" - Solomon Ibn Gabriol

If you think about it, the quote is true. First, you start out with silence then in the end, you end up teaching others what you've learned.

These steps are all imperative in the act of communicating.

I agree, this should be taught to our children at a young age. Being still, quiet, observant, receptive, these are all difficult to do in the hectic lives we all live yet it is so rewarding once done. It is also key to learning about ones self

So true!!!! You have to be silent to listen and learn, and the greatest joy is teaching others.

This quote is very true and if you follow it then you are heading on the road to success. Sometimes people tend to talk like they know it all before learning anything. That is the wrong way and won't get you anywhere. You have to be patient by following those steps and working hard to get better. Then, the wisdom will come.

hm... Very useful. It really made me think, when I saw the first step as silence...

If this were true, there would be no reality TV shows to watch.

My dad always tells me that I should always listen to what others have to say first before I jump in, I always learn more that way!

I think that when we listen and learn the information it doesnt stay with us as long, but once you have taught it to someone it seems to stay with you for a lifetime.
