The historic speech at the memorial in Tuscon last night is hailed by communication professionals and even by political critics as a "home run", a "brilliant speech", "a heart felt speech", "the right speech at the right time" and from the president's worst critics "presidential" and "essential" in "healing the nation".
It is a speech that my students should watch and critique (with extra credit offered) and all Americans should hear and really listen to.
What touched me the most is that Obama is the father of a 9 year old himself, that he showed the church background so many try to deny he has, that his faith is real (not shown on video, but during the service you could see him pray for God's love and support), and that he is the President of the United States, a father, a leader, and a compassionate father.
Pray for, or think of, the families of those who died, the bravery of those who survived and the well being of those still hospitalized, including the Congresswoman, in the aftermath of this national tragedy.
Most of President Obama's memorial speech, really a eulogy and homily for those who noticed the Christian/Catholic structure of the overall service at the University of Arizona, can be found on YouTube by clicking here.
