Bring it on!

The views and opinions...

This blog is public and open to all input, students and public, from anywhere in the world. Past students, current students, students of life, and those who simply surf blogs, are encouraged to participate.

It has come to my attention that some of my students may be holding back or even intimidated by this blog, launched due to large section student head counts and a need to connect sections outside of Angel, because they fear that their opinions may impact their grades, or that I am liable to get angry.

Neither is true.

The idea in a communication, public affairs, current affairs, theater or acting course is to be open in your communication, observations and to stay on top of current news, events and updates (defined as "currency" in one course and "recency" in another).

As stated in class, your views and opinions are as valid as anyone else, including me. The differences is the culture, background, life experience, demographics and psychographics of perspective.

Listing skills include in thought, as well as with your ears or other senses. Be open to other views, respond to them, explore and make suggestions.

I am looking forward to your responses to this or any other posting, your own suggested posts and your participation here, on Angel and in the courseroom.

Boulder City before the storm

Buying an Election: special interests rule this year, by the millions!

As of the most recent campaign filing Republicans are outspending Democrats 7 to 1 on Federal Races (Senate and House), not counting "issue" ads through Shadow non-profits with, thanks to the US Supreme Court overturning 100 years of precedence, no accountability.

Republicans always outspend Democrats, however this is the highest percentage on record.

The information need not be "vetted" or "juried" in any way, so in effect misinformation is abundant on both sides, and polls indicate that voters are buying into it, on both sides. Slogans and the selling of false impressions has never been this high since the 1890's, over 110 years ago.

Nevada's spending far exceeds the 7 time advantage, with an estimate that Republican candidates and interests groups are outspending Democrats by a 20 to 1 ratio on federal races alone. Driving this are two key races for Republicans in their efforts to gain control of the Congress. Unseating Harry Reid and returning the 3rd Congressional district to the Republican camp.

Union Perspective
I have seen cats who raise possums, possums raising kittens and dogs raising cats..so this may be true...not sure if it is or not....

In a zoo in California , a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth.

The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health, although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mother's cub's, perhaps she would improve.

After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veterinarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother of one species, will take on the care of a different species. The only 'orphans' that could be found quickly, were a litter of weanling pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger.

Now, please tell me one more time........?
Why can't the rest of the world get along??

-Thank you to Charlie DiPinto for passing on this Internet mail (again I canot say if the photos are true, but I can tell you that cats and other mothers have nursed what would normally be enemies or food.

TV’s Future Has Arrived (Almost)

Americans used to gather in front of their TV sets on, say, Thursday at 8 p.m. and tune in to Channel 3. The upside: the whole country had a common cultural bond.

The downside: everyone had to sit down Thursday at 8 p.m.

The requirement for the whole population to watch the same shows simultaneously has evaporated as technology advanced.

But what will replace the old system? Will we be able to sign up for just the channels we want? Will we pay for one episode at a time? Will the Internet become the new delivery system?

At this point, the future of TV is still up in the air, if not over the air.

To read about Apple TV, and other developments in the immediate future  impacting how we watch TV, and the limitations set on these by large studios and corporations, click here.

Looking for BC or upper Henderson vet, groomer and trainer

Needed Veterinarian and trainer for our latest "family" member, Bobby.

Seen here, he is on the way home after we picked him up, with no idea of what was going on. This morning he is more playful and driving both us and our older dog Mimi (8, a cattle dog) crazy. He thinks he is a lap dog and must have slept on the bed with his previous owners. He is a rescue dog.

We live in Boulder City.

What is wealth?

What is wealth? Is is income? Is is savings? Is it investments? Is it internal or external? Is it how you perceive yourself or how others perceive you?

There is real wealth inequality in the US.

Social mobility is possible, including rags to riches, but it is far less common than most people think.

The bottom 40% of the people in the US have zero wealth, with no net worth or negative.

30% are ahead of the curve, but by no more than ten percent. Only 20% are well ahead.

The top 10% of Americans have 85% of the "wealth" in the United States.

Americans say they think that American should be more like the one they perceive they grew up in (actually things were never this way), with wealthy controlling no more than 35% of perceived wealth, and the middle class 60%.

The closer countries to what Americans say they think we are are countries like Sweden, where in reality there are high taxes and a base socialism.
