Why Scott Pilgrim did not Save Hollywood

"Scott Pilgrim vs the World" failed miserably. Based on a beloved graphic novel series. Loved at Comi-con International. Reviews positive. Popular stars. Faithful to comic. But did not work. Cost over 85 million dollars to produce. In the long run it will make funds overseas, DVD and downloads, but will it make enough to see future films like it for the needed theatrical release.

Why? The "Expendables" damaged it, because its audience was not 55 year old men with beer-guts. The primary audience for Expendables was teenagers and young adults.

And possibly the new internet driven generation is not that different than their parents...with television and movie culture rooted in traditional media, while the small segment of comic book / graphic novel followers remaining small and highly segmented within their own culture.
