People believe what they read in the papers, even if they know it is not true. If enough people say it is true than people will believe it to be true."

-From the movie "Tucker", bit it applies to the attacks on Harry Reid, the president and anyone who does not agree with the big dollars fueling the Tea Party and an effort to continue to control public opinion and manipulate the truth.

This quote makes sense because alot of people in the world think like this. Even though you know something is not true if its believed by enough people and repeated it will somehow become true. I definetly agree with this quote.

This is true. when one person start believing one thing its like a horrible disease everyone starts to believe the same thing. ethos. hmmm...

I don't suppose there's any chance at all that people will start to think for themselves. I was taught (by my parents, NOT by public schools) to always look for the truth. Investigate sources, look up facts and statistics, and don't just take someone else's word for it. Critical thinking seems to be a dying art.

This statement is so true. When someone starts to believe something, they spread the word around and then other people start to believe it. After a lot of people start to believe something it is really hard to break the false statement.

The problem is people don't take the time to learn about anything. They make decisions and judgments based on what other people shove down their throats. Especially politics.

Evidently it seems we all can agree with this statement but when you look at it though a lot of information is misleading especially when it comes to politics some "rumors" & "speculations" turn out to be true with further investigation. Though people should believe in everything they read in papers they should take a mental note!

So many people say, "think for yourself and go beyond what they tell you" but some of those same people are part of the problem too. Many of those people say it but dont practice it. If the written word is convincing enough all of us are prone to believe it without research.

I think that if a person trusts someone who tells them things they will believe them regardless if it is wrong or right.

I completely agree with this quote. For most people, its about who believes it not why you believe it. I think its a mistake to think like this, but I even do it at times.

It also depends on what kind of people and what kind of source. I, for example are more likely to get my information from and base my opinions from the Las Vegas Review Journal.Other people believe that every word in the ational Enquirer is true.

I agree with this quote. I witness this every day. An example of this happens all the time on the web. People will post something about a child who has disappeared and include a picture and a sad, believable story and everyone buys into it. More people re-post it and it goes viral. However, in most of these cases, if you do some of your own research, you will find that the child doesn't exist or the story is true but it happened to somebody else.

Another more recent and specific example would be the SOPA act and everyone's opposition to it in the media, especially facebook. Many people were posting about it and asking others to sign petitions and such. A lot of people signed the petitions without actually reading the act. The ones who did read it noticed that the act wouldn't actually affect us the way everyone thought it would.

If i read something in the paper and didnt know nothing about it then i would think its true but im not like those who know the truth but read lies.

People should not believe everything they read any more than they do everything they are told.

I believe it. Even if its not in the papers, I can see people believing something thats not true just from hearing it or being exposed to it in any way. Like if all your friends say something, you'll be tempted to believe it. Thats why gossip and rumors exist in my opinion. This post is a nice reminder to use critical thinking and to not blindly accept what you read or hear.

The quote is true. People should just believe what they want to believe in. Big dollars can push a lot of lies into peoples ears..
