How to park a car

How did parking garages come into being? Would you believe they were once engineering innovations for the future? NPR's All Things Considered has a story worth listening to.

To the top top top in the winter, and anywhere in the shade during the summer.

Parking garages were a good invention to save space and provide alot of parking spaces for multiple cars in one area. I dislike garages that are poorly lit, or the roofs seem low. I always feel like i will hit them. Haha. Its interesting that years ago, they would have levels for just women, a parking attendant that would park the car for you etc. Now all parking garages want is the money, usually a low paid attendant that doesnt care about your car, or that job and not liek it used to be. Oh well, after all i guess it is 'just' a parking garage. What else should we expect?

It actually doesn't surprise me because parking garages are still confusing to me. I feel like I'm always going to the wrong way or can't find the exit...

I never really thought about the history of parking garages before. I've also never used one personally, but I believe I've seen some of the old car elevators. I don't know if I really like the idea of a whole level just for women. I mean, I understand the reasoning behind it, but I feel like it would also be a floor that could easily be targeted unless the parking structures use sufficient security measures.
